There’s nothing like holding a glass of something sparkly while celebrating family at Christmas, a new year approaching or a beautiful summer evening. But not everyone is able or willing to drink alcohol (kids, pregnant women, drivers, etc).
S here is one solution – make a mock champagne punch without the alcohol!
Simply mix the following in a jug or carafe then pour into 16 (preferably chilled!) champagne flutes.
1.5 litre sparkling mineral water
1.5 litre dry ginger ale
1.2 litre white grape juice
Make sure everything is cold when you mix them and you get a refreshing cold drink that is perfect for a summer Christmas treat.
This sounds delicious! We had punch very similar to this at my Baby Shower. I honestly never thought about using White Grape Juice in a punch before. I think it would be extra yummy with the champagne though. Maybe for an adult Christmas party!
Champagne does add to a punch, but you do need to choose your audience 🙂
Thansk for sharing that recipe, Eve. Sounds perfect to me today (39 or so degrees today is HOT!)
Club Soda with fresh squeezed lime juice is a very refreshing non-alcoholic drink.
This reminds me of a story about a Christmas party. The hostess got the 2 bowls of punch mixed up and accidentally gave the alcoholic punch to the kids in the family room. Towards the end of the party, they checked on the kids and saw them staggering around and acting very silly and strange, more so than usual. They realized that all the kids except the oldest one, who was a teenage girl, were drunk. This teenager was sneaking drinks from the ‘adult’ punch bowl, so thus, she was the only one in the family room – sober.
Hohohoho, I love that story Clauzetta! A bit nughty to laugh at drunk kids, I guess, but it appeals to my sense of humour I’m afriad 🙂
I also like a slice or two of lemon in some sparkling mineral (or even tap!) water, too.
Thank you for sharing that simple recipe with us! Children are always so sad when they can’t celebrate with adults. I hope that a glass of champagne without the alcohol will make them feel better.
Children love to feel grown up – a sparkly drink in a fancy glass does give the party atmosphere, so alcohol free punch works nicely for everyone I think 🙂
This sounds really good!! I never much liked the bottles of sparkling fake champagne. I just may have to try this for our New Year’s Eve party this year! Thanks for the recipe!
Enjoy your New Year’s Eve, dhrynio 🙂
My girls had a Christmas party last night and someone made this with apple juice. It was really yummy. The kids thought they were being fancy because they had this fancy drink in fancy glasses.
Very simple things can bring so much joy, especially for kids – love to hear about Christmas parties 🙂
