Want an easy way to make a cake or cup cakes or dessert platter or whatever look really special?
Simply heat up a candy cane (buy them in whatever size suits the decoration you’re after – they range from tiny to huge!) and gently bend it into a shape to suit.
Adding more of a swirl than the traditional cane shape is more compact so it works better on some designs I find – the long cane just doesn’t fit in and looks stark so this is a nice option.
You are so clever! I never would have thought about heating them to change their shape!! So many ideas swirling in my brain now!!
Love seeing people inspired, dhrynio – I hope you use some of those ideas swirling around!
I have never heard of this tip before. I love it! I bet you could add some curling ribbon to dress it up even more.
Good suggestion, Jaimie. Curls of candy cane and ribbon together could be quite stunning on top of a white cake…
So that is how they change the shapes. I have seen candycanes swirled but never knew how to do it…Great share:)
Yes, the secret is now out, bue eyes 🙂
That is such a wonderful idea! I’ve also seen where you cant melt peppermints in the over, let it hard, and then WAH-LAH! Instant Christmas platter! It’s amazing that you can use something as simmple, and cheap, as candy canes or peppermints to make such neat crafts!
Wow, a platter made of pepermints – what a novel idea! I’ve got questions piling up now – how many peppermints, how long does the platter last, what do I have I could use as a mould… I wonder if the process makes it less attractive to ants though – I could just see the Christams tbale swarming with ants wanting to eat my platter, lol!
WHat a great idea! Thanks Hailey.
I agree that a long candy cane can look a bit stark but curling them around a bit would make the top of a cake look more festive and interesting.
This is such a great idea, the simple one’s are always the best! I also happen to love candy canes 🙂 so I am going to have a lot of fun with this!
What a great idea!
