We saw a very impressive Christmas lights display last night – we hadn’t gone looking for it (still a bit early to expect to find many) but this one stood out so we detoured and checked it out.
One things that particularly stood out to me was a Christmas countdown – in lights!
Sitting in a front window of the house, we could see a count down clock for the days, hours, minutes ans seconds to go until it is Christmas! In red of course, it would be fun to watch as it clicked over to 1 December or Christmas Day!
Have you ever seen a count down clock as part of someone’s Christmas light display? It was a first for me!
I have never actually seen a countdown clock as part of a Christmas lights display. It is a clever idea thought. But to be honest I still have somewhat of a problem with starting Christmas displays before we even celebrate Thanksgiving. It seems these days that more and more people just jump from Halloween to Christmas forgetting there is a holiday in between or treating it as an after thought. But then some think of Halloween as the start of the holiday season, which mean Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Well Halloween and Thanksgiving aren’t really celebrated in Australia (although some are picking up Halloween) so we don’t have such an obvious lead into the holidays, pafjlh. But 10 November (that’s when this place started according to a sign on their gate!) seems very early to me, too.
I’ve always thought 1 December is the time to put up the tree and associated decorations, but I guess if you’re going all out publicly, starting early gives more people time to view it. And I think some start early because it takes so long to get it all done!
It must have looked amazing. I have never seen a countdown clock but it’s an interesting idea. Special clock for Christmas would be great.
The house was amazing alright, Trissandra.
The clock was a digital clock really (just going backwards) so I guess you could find them if you looked – I mean, places may sell them for general use rather than as Christmas related count downs.
I have never seen a countdown clock personally but I have seen some movies and TV shows that use countdown clocks for Christmas. It must have been really exciting to have a countdown clock in a party since you know that everyone else in the party knows just how far Christmas is.
Ohh, a countdown party could be a lot of fun! And I guess you could reuse the clock for New Years Eve a week later, too!
Sounds a bit much to me. I like to think of Christmas as a season rather than just waking up on Christmas morning and rushing to open presents. I would like to see outdoor Christmas lights from Halloween until Valentines Day because they brighten up winter evenings. But a clock counting down to Christmas Day seems like they are missing out on the Spirit of Christmas and the Season of Christmas.
Lights all through summer for us would be nice, to, Clauzetta, as its a lovey way to spend a summer evening – we did a little of it tonight actually.
This particular house was covered in lights and were very much into the spirit of Christmas lights – the clock was a small part of the whoel thing. Who knows how they think/feel but I think they are just building anticipation 🙂
