For a bit of fun, make some cakes (or muffins) that look like Christmas trees 🙂 Sorry to share it so long after Christmas – I just got too busy, lol!
This is an easy activity to give the kids, too, and can become a gift-making exercise while you’re at it.
Christmas tree cakes
Make a rectangular cake or brownie
Cool the cake
Cut the cake/brownie into triangles
Insert a candy cane into the cake half way along the base – to form the tree trunk
Use coloured icing to add lines of tinsel on the tree
Use dobs of icing or broken lollies to add other decorations to your tree
Let everything set then enjoy!
Really handy to give as gifts for the kinder or school class.
Of course, you could use a tree shaped cutter instead of triangles if you have that option, but the triangles are so easy and don’t waste any cake.
Thanks for this idea, Jacinta 🙂
I tried this and it works well. However, I used melted white chocolate instead of coloured icing as pictured above.
I also used some crushed candy canes to decorate the trees but didn’t manage a good photo of that unfortunately.
I tried with 70% cacao, melted, blended with some white.. Wow. Try it. You will not regret if you are a chocolate lover.
Yum – I love anything chocolate so will give that a try 🙂
I Will try to do this with my kids. The shape I know they Will love. Always a positive thing to let your children join in the baking so everyone feel they are a important part in the christmas celebration.
My kids love cooking with me, too. It’s part of preparing for Christmas – they help with jobs and feel important, have fun, learn useful skills and get to do something for others.
I hope your kids enjoy their Christmas trees, Holunderminze.
I messed around a little bit with this recipe and the taste is good. I used some agave for the sweet taste and it works very well. Ill not show them to my kids just yet, that Will have to wait until december 🙂
Well done Holunderminze if you can keep them secret until December! I guess that means all the more taste testing you’ll have to do yourself 😉
I haven’t tried cooking with agave – you recommend it?
I love this! I’ll have to try this. For Christmas ornaments, I can probably use the back of some M&M Minis. They look like something that would go dashingly as part of a gingerbread house too.
Yes, you could add these around a gingerbread house to make a lovely little edible scene 🙂 I like your thinking, sorrowscal!
Those cakes look awesome and also fairly simple to make them I believe. Making cakes with shapes is the best because that makes them even more entertaining for the kids.
