We have small Christmas trees in the kids’ rooms, which they love:)
This year, a bit of ahead of me getting out the usual decorations, my daughter decided to decorate the trees.
She grabbed out some school sports ribbons and other sashes to use instead of tinsel. It actually looked quite effective and is a nice acknowledgement of her sporting achievements over the year (she was just after the colour and instant gratification, but I liked the display of her achievements!)
This does look great. I like it because it is a little different. It is always nice to have some decorations that are not the usual. I will be trying out something like this.
Yes, it is nice to be a little different and more personal.
Let us know what you do this year, Oraclemay.
I usually only spend time with the one big tree (believe me in family it takes long time of properly finalize one) but the idea to have several small ones is a fun idea. For example to put one in each childrens room I think would be appreciated.
Does that mean you go and select a real tree together as a family, holunderminze?
We’ve always focussed on one main tree but small ones in the kids’ rooms is fun. I also used to decorate a real fir tree growing outside, too, as I couldn’t bring it inside.
This is adorable, and a great idea for a themed tree; especially so for a child who might need that extra boost of self-assurance around that time of year. I’ll probably suggest something like this to the parents of the kids I babysit; they were asking the other day about some holiday ideas to try.
I agree that it is a fun way to boost some self-esteem!
It might also be a fun way to help a child learn. For instance, putting decorations on the tree that might be related to school subjects or something. One thing I’d like to do someday is to tie mini paperback copies of famous books to a tree like ornaments.
Wow, now that would look interesting sorrowscal – please send me a photo if you ever do that!
For learning, I could also see ornaments with non-English words on them (whether ‘merry Christmas’ in multiple languages or various Christmassy words/terms in one language).
I would love to do that! I will send you a picture if that ever happens but it’s a long ways off before I can. I told my dad this idea for an educational tree and he might try that for my siblings. I don’t know if he will though, I’m leaving before they set it up.
I look forward to the photo, sorrowscal (but I won’t hold my breath for it just yet!) Maybe your Dad can send you some photos of his educational tree if he does it for your siblings, so you can experience it at least a little even if you can’t be there.
Well, they were moving around furniture yesterday and wrapping presents for the kids in their room. I’m hoping I’ll be here long enough to help set up the tree. If that’s the case, one of my sisters and I are going to sit down and partially use that decoration idea I saw floating somewhere around here to make Japanese characters to put on the tree.
Sorry I missed this comment, sorrowscal. Did you get to help put up the tree or make some Japanese characters?
No, I didn’t get to. I had to leave to come back home last night, but they are implementing that idea into their Christmas tree as far as I know. I’m going to call them up and help with the words and phrases I do know in that language when they ask.
I love the purple tree very cute. What a neat idea to put her sports ribbons on tree as decorations nice touch.
