Christmas is celebrated differently between families; each family having different rituals and traditions that are passed down over the years.
Some people open presents on Christmas Eve, some on Christmas Day and others after Christmas.
And others dance around their tree and sing songs as part of their celebrations.
My family doesn’t even have a tree at Christmas, we decorate the fireplace and chimney!
Though it is for the same thing, each family celebrates this day (well month really) in slightly different ways.
I’m curious as to what other people do – are we the only ones without a tree?

Bruhder. That’s the first thing Christmas morning. There’re other traditions also, but after Christmas breakfast:) We meet at our oldest aunty’s house and usually it’s our family that brings the bruhder.
Excuse my ignorance, but what is bruhder? I could Google it but I prefer to hear from someone who knows and loves it 🙂
I would also like to hear what bruhder means. I daughter has a Christmas cactus and a cousin of mind doesn’t have a real tree, she has a tree crocheted by her grandmother that she puts on the table. More and more I think people are finding other ways to celebrate without a tree. A Christmas wish I have had for years is to gather the entire family for Christmas way back in the snow covered mountains in a old rustic log cabin with a huge fireplace for the holidays. I would willingly give up a tree for this.
What an idyllic Christmas that would be pocs, I hope you get to try it one day.
Interesting you think more people are moving away from a Christmas tree – it is such a focal point for Christmas traditions and parties in my mind.
Some I get, some I don’t. I can tell some are in jest and some are like holy crap serious.
I don’t get the Elf on the Shelf thing, I see it around every year lol.
There is a great range of traditions, Summer, and those very different to our own can be harder ‘to get’. And people sometimes put a lot of emotion into maintaining those traditions so appear to take them seriously.
I’m starting get the elf on the shelf thing – I had never heard of it until a couple of years ago. I think it is an American thing, although it may well be spreading now with the internet and Pinterest…
